Mary Lee Brady, Ph.D.
| | Our research indicates that Beverly Lee at the time of 1880 census was likely living in Abington with his mother Nancy Lee Banister at the residence of Thomas Findley his father, and mistakenly identified in census records as a female. We have visited relatives and cemeteries in Midlothian for confirmation that Nancy Lee and her children lived there, before she moved to Ohio taking three of her offspring known to be Thomas, George and perhaps Beverly who later relocated to Tennessee.
(Bev. Lee) is believed by us to be Beverly R. Lee, youngest child of Nancy Lee Banister was identified below census as White in the birth registry of Chester Lee born in Midlothian (outskirts of Richmond), but recorded as mulatto as with male siblings George Findley Lee and Thomas Findley Lee. The three male siblings were moved by their mother from Midlothian, Virginia to Bloomingburg, Ohio. It is not certain as to when the move to Ohio actually occurred. It appears as though while in Virginia Chester Arthur Lee was likely passed on by his mother as White.
